HYBL and Our History
About
Our Approach
Hingham Youth Lacrosse exists to grow players, and to grow the game in our town. We focus on skill development, a love of the sport, and being part of a community.
Developing "the great middle." A strong program isn't just its top players. We invest in every kid on the roster, building depth, confidence, and camaraderie across each grade. When the whole group gets better, everyone benefits, from the first-year player to the future varsity captain.
A hybrid coaching model. Our teams are led by a mix of parent coaches with strong lacrosse backgrounds and experienced outside coaches when possible. The combination brings different perspectives, deep knowledge of the game, and a real connection to the community.
A pathway to Hingham High. Our youth program and the Harbormen high school program share the same goals and values. Everything we teach, from fundamentals to how we compete, is designed to give players who stay in Hingham a smooth transition into high school lacrosse.
Program Structure
Little Laxers (Kindergarten, Co-Ed)
A fun, low-pressure introduction to the game, starting each April.
Grades K–8 (Boys)
Our core program is built around the spring season, running from late March through early June, with regular practices and games against other Hingham teams and neighboring towns.
Town Pride League (Grades 3–8)
Starting in 3rd grade, Hingham competes in the Town Pride League (TPL), one of the most competitive youth lacrosse leagues in Massachusetts.
Fall Ball and Winter Skills and Special Summer Events
Off-season skills and drills sessions run Saturdays in the fall (September–November) and Sundays in the winter (November–March). We often have special events scheduled in the summer like collegiate/professional player run training sessions.

Our History
Lacrosse runs deep in Hingham. The Hingham High School program began in the late 1970s, and in 1987 a group of local families founded Hingham Youth Boys Lacrosse, one of just 10 youth programs in Massachusetts at the time. Nearly 40 years later, it has grown into one of the largest youth boys' lacrosse programs in the state.
From the beginning, Hingham has helped set the pace for town programs across Massachusetts. We launched a Fall Ball program in 1989 and a Sunday Winter Skills program in 1999, and both are still going strong today.
As the sport grew, so did our home. The program helped build the Ward Street complex, made possible by the generosity of Dave Margetts and countless volunteer hours. Ward Street remains the heart of Hingham lacrosse and a facility few towns can match.
The youth program feeds directly into Hingham High, which consistently ranks among the best in Massachusetts. Longtime head coach John Todd is the winningest coach in the history of Massachusetts high school boys' lacrosse, and generations of Harbormen have gone on to play at the college level. Many of them got their start right here, at Ward Street.
None of it happens without people. Over nearly four decades, thousands of players, coaches, volunteers, and families have built this program on a simple foundation: player development, hometown pride, and memorable experiences. Whether you join us as a player, a coach, a volunteer, or a fan, you're part of that story.
